data.world Joins Industry Leaders to Launch the “Manifesto for Data Practices”

Data professionals can visit datapractices.org/manifesto to access the Manifesto and sign in support of healthy data collaboration

AUSTIN, Texas, March 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- data.world today announced that is has joined dozens of authors and more than 1,000 signatories to launch the Manifesto for Data Practices, the first-ever template for modern data collaboration. In the tradition of the Agile Software Development Manifesto, the Manifesto for Data Practices lays out 4 values and 12 principles to illustrate the most effective, ethical, and modern approach to data teamwork.

Developed and signed by a diverse group of data leaders and professionals working in government, business, academia, journalism, and NGOs, the Manifesto provides a new model that can be followed by any organization to maximize data’s internal value and societal impact.

“Today, every choice that a company makes about data has the potential to help or harm consumers, communities, and even entire countries,” said Brett Hurt, veteran technologist and CEO of data.world. “The Manifesto for Data Practices is critically important because it defines a new model for improving data practices themselves. It can be used by any organization to foster ethical, productive data teamwork, and we feel privileged to have collaborated with so many industry luminaries to co-author and release this manifesto.”

A full list of authors and signatories is available at https://datapractices.org/manifesto and includes the following data leaders:

  • Eric Colson, Chief Algorithms Officer at StitchFix and former VP of Data Science & Engineering at Netflix
