We’ve acquired Capsenta to bring the power of knowledge graphs to companies with on-prem data

I’m beyond excited to share this news. data.world has acquired Capsenta! In this brief post I’d like to explain why I personally think this is important for the enterprise data universe, and I encourage you to also read Capsenta co-founder Juan Sequeda’s own reflection and the official announcement.

What we’re doing by making this big move is putting our money where our mission is. Our mission is to create the most meaningful, collaborative, and abundant data resource in the world.

To fulfill this promise, we need to make it possible for more people across more businesses to adopt groundbreaking, modern data technologies without huge barriers to entry. Capsenta’s data virtualization technology helps enterprises enter the new era of data in the cloud while building on—not abandoning—their prior investments in expensive on-premises data infrastructure. Paired with data.world’s modern data and analysis catalog and consumer-grade UI, Capsenta’s graph capabilities are now usable by people across the enterprise, not just semantic web experts.

This is a milestone that Austin and The University of Texas can be proud of, as am I. Austin is my hometown, and I’m a proud UT-Austin alum. Capsenta was spun-out of UT-Austin and commercialized in 2015. Its virtualization product is the result of Dr. Juan Sequeda and Professor Daniel Miranker’s research. No wonder Josh Baer (Capital Factory founder), Bob Metcalfe (UT Professor of Innovation), and Venu Shamapant (LiveOak Venture Partners founding partner) are all so excited about what I’m sharing with you today. How lucky we are to all be based in Austin and find such a perfect technological match to help our industry leap forward!

If you’re interested in learning more about how the combined power of data.world and Capsenta can help your company, we would love to talk!
