Sharon Brener leads product design at data.world, overseeing the user experience of the web-based application. She conducts user research and designs data-driven workflows to help data-literate and non-technical folks speak the same language. Previously, she was the Design Director at Wikibuy and worked at Pentagram Design, CA Technologies, and as a freelance designer.

Ryan is an established figure in the Austin entrepreneurial ecosystem and has guided technology companies on their growth and customer success strategies. He has also held a variety of business development and customer success roles over a twenty-year period. This includes time spent at Bazaarvoice and Trilogy, where he first met and worked with the data.world co-founders.
Director of Marketing
Ian co-developed the Practices for Better Data Teamwork curriculum, and is the author of The Social Media Side Door (McGraw-Hill). Previous roles include Digital Strategist at The Economist, Director of Marketing at Olapic and Senior Manager of Content and Social Strategy at Bazaarvoice. His compelling storytelling style seamlessly weaves together fresh data, expertly-crafted narrative, contrarian thinking, actionable guidance and memorable anecdotes from a wealth of experience. CTO & Co-Founder
Bryon is a recognized leader in building large-scale consumer internet systems and an expert in data integration solutions. Bryon’s twenty years of academic and professional experience spans AI research at Case Western Reserve University, enterprise software at Trilogy, and consumer web experience at Amazon and most recently in ten years building HomeAway.com. At HomeAway, Bryon oversaw platform development and the integration of thirty acquisitions while building the world’s largest online marketplace for vacation rentals.

CPO & Co-Founder
In a past life, Jon was the VP of Engineering for Traveler Products at HomeAway, and before that, a VP of Engineering and Director of the Labs group at Bazaarvoice. As a long-time technology executive in Austin, he has lived the rise in the trend of data and analytics as a democratizing force. Jon brought A/B testing and data-driven product management to Bazaarvoice and massively expanded the data programs at HomeAway. Jon introduced GitHub to Bazaarvoice and made OSS contribution a major part of their culture. He’s seen the benefits of openness and transparency in software and, at data.world, is bringing the same benefits to open data and the enterprise.

Director of Community
Patrick has worked to build community and foster Open Source ideals at companies like Sourceforge/Slashdot, Alcatel-Lucent, and Perforce. Most recently Patrick served as the Director of Community for the Ceph open source project at the startup ‘Inktank,’ and later for Red Hat after a successful acquisition. Patrick enthusiastically helps companies to understand and adopt Open Source ideals through community engagement, conferences, and events. A seasoned speaker, Patrick has presented talks and workshops around the globe, including events like Linuxcon, OSCON, DEVIEW, OpenStack Summit, and a number of targeted custom events.

Ariane serves as General Counsel and head of HR for data.world. Prior to joining the company, she was a corporate partner for over 8 years at DLA Piper, one of the world’s largest and leading business law firm. In that capacity, she advised companies, boards of directors and venture funds on corporate matters ranging from venture financings, mergers & acquisitions, initial public offerings and corporate governance. At data.world, she handles the company’s financings, customer and partnership agreements, HR and compliance matters, including its public benefit corporation status and B Corporation certification.

VP of Business Development
Len oversees business development and partnerships at Austin-based B-Corp, data.world. Before joining data.world, he was CEO and co-founder of two ventures. The first, pledge4good, was a social fundraising platform that he founded while completing his MBA and that was acquired in 2012. More recently, he founded, and ran for three and a half years, a big data company serving investment funds called Uniqueio. Len has been a speaker at many events including the White House Open Data Summit, the Open Data Science Conference – East, the OECD’s Global Science Forum and many others. Len earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree in Economics from Duke University.

In addition to his leadership of data.world, Brett is the co-owner of Hurt Family Investments (HFI), alongside his wife, Debra. HFI are involved in 60 startups, 17 VC funds, and multiple philanthropic endeavors. Brett co-founded and led Bazaarvoice as CEO, through its IPO, follow-on offering, and two acquisitions. Brett also founded and led Coremetrics, which was rated the #1 Web analytics solution by Forrester Research and, like Bazaarvoice, expanded into a global company and leader. Coremetrics was acquired by IBM in 2010 for around $300m. In 2017, Brett was given the Best CEO Legacy Award by the Austin Business Journal. Brett Hurt began programming at age seven and doing so on the Internet at age eighteen.

Previous to data.world, Matt held multiple leadership roles at HomeAway, the world’s leading vacation rental marketplace, including as Vice President of Global Business Development and General Manager of BedandBreakfast.com. Prior to HomeAway, Matt served as Vice President of Business Development at Bazaarvoice, the global leader in social commerce solutions. Matt is passionate about the opportunities created by smarter data collaboration and analytics for both business insight and societal progress. He is a graduate of both the Wharton Business School (MBA, ’98) and the Lauder Institute of International Studies and Management (MA, ’98).

Data Scientist + Knowledge Engineer
Jonathan Ortiz is a data scientist and leader of the product science team at Austin data startup data.world. Jonathan is also a member of Data For Democracy, an inclusive community for data scientists and technologists to volunteer and collaborate on projects that make a positive impact on society. Prior to his work in data science, Jonathan accumulated extensive experience in media, marketing, and consulting. Jonathan received a Bachelor of Science in Economics with concentrations in Marketing and Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
